Substance Abuse Stabilization Phase of Addiction Treatment

The Substance Abuse Stabilization phase comfortably and safely transitions clients from detox to outpatient drug treatment. In stabilization, clients receive individual and group therapy, counseling and medication management.

What is Substance Abuse Stabilization?

While detoxing from drugs and alcohol, you are slowly readjusting to reality. While abusing various substances, you were likely in a mental “fog.”. As drugs leave your system, your thinking should start to clear up. When ready, you can start learning relapse prevention techniques to better stabilize your addiction. Substance abuse stabilization at Sublime Wellness includes a combination of medication management, individual therapy, group education and counseling.

Medication Management

If you and your doctor decide to pursue medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, for the long term, the stabilization phase can help determine the right dosage. During this phase, your doctor may adjust the dose or frequency of one or more medications. This will ultimately help stabilize you physically and mentally.

During this phase, your medications will be managed by our team, who will also continue to provide 24 hour supervision. We will let you know when it’s time to take your medication as well have your vitals taken to ensure physical stabilization. You can also get a better feel as to whether or medications will be beneficial to your long-term recovery.

Individual Therapy

During your entire stay at Sublime Wellness Center, you will have access to a boardlicensed primary therapist. Your therapist will meet with you in private twice per week, utilizing behavioral treatments like CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and even trauma therapy. You may even catch your therapist facilitating a process group or two with you and your peers. Along with MAT, individual therapy will help stabilize your emotions and begin to chip away at any lingering issues from your past.

Counseling for Stabilization

Along with a therapist, you will also be able to meet with a state-certified substance abuse counselor. Your counselor will sit down with you each week to review your treatment plan, gauging your progress and serving as a link between you and our medical team. During stabilization, counselors will help ensure your needs are met and guide you along into the next phase of your treatment plan. Feel free to bring any questions you have about your recovery to your them. Many are recovering addicts and can personally relate to everything you’re going through.

Group Education for Stabilization

Don’t get this confused with school. In group sessions, there are no tests. However, group education will teach you about the addiction and recovery process. In these sessions, you and your peers will be given tools to help you cope with triggers and cravings. Some groups will even open up the discussion to give you a chance to collaborate. We try to create a fun educational environment so that you feel comfortable discussing any issues you feel could create a barrier to your recovery.

The substance abuse stabilization period can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. By the end, you should be physically and mentally ready to move on to the next phase of your treatment plan, whether it be continued residential or outpatient treatment.
